Two art exhibits will be displayed at Bakersfield College galleries through September.
Painted wood bas reliefs by Stan Dann will be displayed at the BC Art Gallery and an exhibit of figure drawings by four BC students, "The Body Unique," will be featured in Fine Arts Gallery FA 30.
A resident of the Bay area, Dann creates his wood bas relief using hundreds of pieces of individually shaped wood to compose the picture plane. The components are assembled as in a mosaic and the whole is painted and matte finished, using a subdued pallete.
Dann's subject matter concentrates on settings such as street corners, city stoops or studio interiors that have been considered icons of city life. Work titles include "Complex Corners" and "Single Car Garage."
Dann is a native of Vancouver British Columbia, and studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles...
