“Stan Dann , a Lafayette resident, composes wall-hung mosaics of rounded pieces of wood assembled rather like a puzzle. An extensive display of them extends throughout the theater lobby. Some of the earlier pieces, often “landscapes,” show little transformation of the wood, In later works, representing banal subjects like street corners, brooms and fire hydrants, the wood is rounded, polished, and sometimes even planted to the extent that its stone of material is sublimated to the whole composition. The only figurative work in the the exhibit, they are abstracted to art deco design.”
